Arctic Fox
(Alopex lagopus) In our country, the arctic fox is tied to the treeless mountain areas. It has been protected in Sweden since 1928, but the population is still barely 100 animals. The arctic fox is found throughout the Arctic region and lives on tundra, pack ice, and treeless mountain areas. There can be foxes with both white and dark (“blue”) winter fur in the same litter if the parents carry genes for both color variants. In our country, about 1 in 10 arctic foxes are blue.
