About Lycksele Djurpark
Lycksele Djurpark is Sweden’s northernmost zoo, specializing in Nordic animals. It was founded in 1959 by Holger Lithner, starting as a small animal collection at Gammplatsen. The zoo moved to Brännberget in 1966, where it has since grown into Norrland’s largest tourist attraction. The zoo is operated by Lycksele Municipality.
Meet the Nordic Fauna Up Close
At Lycksele Djurpark, we have chosen to focus on the animals of the Nordic region. Here you will encounter predators, hoofed animals, rodents, and domestic animals – from large, mythical species to smaller animals that play important roles in our ecosystems.
A visit with us is not just about looking at animals. It’s about understanding them. By seeing animals in environments adapted to their needs, listening to the zookeepers’ stories, and taking in information throughout the park, both children and adults gain a deeper insight into animal behavior, habitats, and their place in nature.
A Place for the Whole Family
For many, Lycksele Djurpark is an obvious family outing – a full day where curiosity, play, and the joy of discovery take center stage. Here, children can meet animals they’ve only seen in books before, join feedings, ask questions, and learn through experiences.
The park also offers play, activities, and space for breaks, making it easy to adapt the visit for both young and old adventurers. Whether you come for the animals, nature, the playground, or the community, the goal is the same: that you leave Lycksele Djurpark with new memories, new knowledge, and perhaps an even greater love for our Nordic nature.
More Than Just a Visit
When you visit Lycksele Djurpark, you’re not just in for a day filled with animals, nature, and experiences. You also become part of a larger mission.
Our work is about preserving endangered animal species, spreading knowledge, and contributing to research that strengthens biodiversity. By encountering animals up close, both children and adults gain a greater understanding of nature’s connections, where each species plays an important role.
Your ticket helps us continue to care for the animals, develop educational experiences, and contribute to future nature conservation. Together, we can foster engagement for animals, nature, and biodiversity – long after your visit to the park is over.
Welcome to Lycksele Djurpark – for a day that does good, both for you and for the animals.
