Get to know our seals - 2 levels Primary school and Secondary school
We look at pictures and talk about the seals we have around our Swedish coasts. After that we go out to get a closer look at the seals.
Primary school example: How long canthe sealhold its breath?How fastdo they swim?When are theirpups bornand why are theywhite?etc.You also get the chance to get answersto your own questionsabout seals.
Secondary school example: How canthe sealsdiveso deepand stay under the water so long?We talk aboutadaptations tocold andextreme depths.
2 levels - Primary school (grades 4-6) and Primary school (grades 7-9) and Secondary school
Primary school(grades 4-6) example: We look at pictures, mounted animals and sculls etc. What do they look like and why? Why does the wolverine have such big paws and the lynx a short tail. We talk about the animals and answer questions. After that we visit the animals out in the zoo.
Primary school (grades 7-9) and Secondary school example:
We talk about endangered species, the importance of animal species conservation, animals' adaptation toa cold climate, etc.
Experience the animals "behind the scenes". Accompany one of the animal keepers when they feed the predators, for example, or the cloven-hoof animals or when they clean the Children's Zoo and feed the animals that live there.

Lycksele Djurpark is a member of SDF, Svenska Djurparksföreningen and EAZA, European Association of Zoos and Aquaria. One of the main duties among the members of SDF is activelyto support conservationof endangeredspecies and to increase public knowledge of this and related issues. The purpose of conservation projects isto coordinate breeding activitiesand research regardingaspecies ora group of speciesas well as the location, transfer andsocial environment of the animals.

The SwedishZooAssociation(SDF)runs severalprojects withendangered Nordicspecies.Lycksele Zoo participates inprojects with thewisent,the wolf, the musk ox,the lynx, the grey seal, the wolverine, theotter, the arctic foxandthe brown bear.
Within the European Association of Zoo and Aquaria (EAZA) coordinatedbreeding programmes are coordinated by the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP). Approximately130species can be foundin the programme.
